Balneo-Mud Therapy
It is a thermal therapy that is carried out using thermal mud left in infusion with thermal water in special containers for about 6 months.
APPLICATION METHOD
The mature mud is the basis of the therapy which consists of four steps:
1) Application of the mud
2) Bathing in thermal water or hydromassage
3) The perspiratory reaction
4) The toning massage.
The mud is applied to the affected part at a temperature between 38 °C and 48 °C for a period of 10 to 15 minutes. After the application, the patient is immersed in the thermal bath at a temperature of 37-38 °C for about 8-15 minutes.
Indications: mud therapy is effective in case of chronic inflammatory forms of the locomotor system such as joint arthrosis, tendonitis, muscle pain and inflammation, not in the acute stage.
STEAM JET INHALATIONS
The steam jet inhalation as a preparatory care is usually foreseen in an inhalation treatments cycle;in fact the vasodilatator steam effect, prepares the tissues for the absorption of the constituents successively delivered by aerosol.
Inhalations are individual direct steam jet therapies. They are practiced by spraying the thermal water in particles of the size of 8-10 microns which is sucked by a stream of steam under pressure.
At the outlet nozzle, a thick mist of water particles is obtained at a temperature of about 38°C. The patient is placed with his mouth open at the same level as the jet, at a distance of about 20-30 centimetres.
Indicated in case of chronic diseases of the first airways, nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea and large bronchi.
THE THERMAL BATH
It is a therapy characterized by the immersion of the patient in a bath containing natural hot thermal water (37 °C – 38 °C).
THE WHIRLPOOL
The therapeutic whirlpool is a variant of the thermal bath carried out in a whirlpool tub prepared to massage specific parts of the body through special jets of water submerged and emitted at specific pressures.
Indications: both the bath and the whirlpool have the polyathrosis as primary indication, but are also usefully used for the treatment of some dermatological pathologies and in peripheral vasculopathies
Access to the thermal baths
The Antonimina-Locri Thermal Baths are accredited by the National Health Service (SSN) and can be accessed on the simple request of the attending physician, a pediatrician or a specialist.
